The gardener and the counseller

"What both the gardener and the counseller try to do is create the conditions in which the inherent capacities for growth and development can come to fruition"; so writes Tony Merry, using the same analogy as Janet Tolan I mentioned previously, yet for me adding greater clarity. A counsellor cannot and should not force growth but can and should provide the right conditions, of congruence, empathy and acceptance, along with the other conditions Rogers speaks of as detailed in the previous post here.
